Back from my swanky industry party

Posted on July 28, 2010

Good morning all! I didn’t get home at a reasonable enough time to start blogging last night, which is always a sign of a good party, so here I am today. Last night I went to the Harvard Club of Boston for the Boston Wedding Group/Wedding Wire open meeting.

First let me say the the Harvard Club is GORGEOUS. I took some photos but they really don’t do it justice.

It’s all chandeliers, lofty ceilings, and wood paneling. Like a library without books or Hogwarts without the long dining tables (though they did have lots of tea lights around these two little Evita balconies so there was kind of a floating candle look). The food, drinks, flowers everything was great. I wish I’d have been able to partake in all of them a little more but I found myself too busy talking to everyone else to give the cheese plates my full attention and that, my dears, is saying something about the quality of people.

A quick round up of everyone I chatted with (and even if you’re not local, everyone has photos on their sites and good ideas that you are just waiting to find):

  • Jeri Solomon Floral Design who is the one who got me the invitation to the event in the first place. (Thanks, Jeri!)
  • Rita Tatem, the blogger behind Boston.com’s wedding blog.
  • Andrea Murphy and Romy Ganz, who work at the Boston Marriots (Cambridge and Long Wharf, respectively, and let me just say that the first photo that came up for me at the Long Wharf website was an amazing wedding set up)
  • Leslie, Erin, and one other whose card I feel horrible but didn’t receive her card so I’m not sure of her name from Planned Perfectly.
  • Molly Lanigan and her sister both from Wedding Wire, both wearing fabulous dresses. And I didn’t quite realize this earlier but if you’re not on Wedding Wire– you should be– they are TAKING OVER. They’ve paired up with WeddingBee (which was THE wedding blog when I was getting married), Martha Stewart Weddings (we all know my love for Martha) and Project Wedding. The main speaker at the event, Sonny Ganguly, is their Chief Marketing Officer and he seems pretty unstoppable. And have I mentioned that I’m on there too? I even have my new little review widget in my sidebar!
  • Felice Pomeranz, of The Gilded Harps. My best friend growing up was from a family of harpists so needless to say I am a big fan of harps. (That harpist is Lucy McCaffrey, in case anyone is in the Albany, NY area)
  • Patty Lamb and her associate from The Milton-Hoosic Club in Milton which seems like it would be a perfect option for those looking for a home-y wedding but don’t quite have the “home” to do it in.
  • Ellen Sax, president of Table Artistry. OOH we got name cards just like the ones on the top left in the photos. Mine had a pretty white flower :)
  • Espresso Dave himself, Dave Salzman, gave me a delicious Chai Tea because coffee can upset my stomach and it was late and I had to take both a bus AND subway to get there so I didn’t want to roll those die but everyone around me was RAVING about the coffee drinks. I know I had heard of bringing a coffee guru in at the end of events but for some reason I keep forgetting what a fun way to end the night.
  • I did get to sample MANY tasty desserts as well. Since I was jumping from table to table I’m not sure whose was exactly whose but it was all good: I know for sure one was Cakes for Occasions and I think Jenny’s Wedding Cakes was there too but again, too busy eating trying to make sure I sampled every sort of a deliciousness, less paying attention to the small signs next to them.
  • And last but not least: Karen Hasenfus of the Larz Anderson Auto Museum, which appears to be apart of a large beautiful park, just happens to look like a gorgeous castle, and was apparently listed as one of the Top 10 Boston Museums for a Wedding. Can you think of a better way to have a fairytale wedding where EVER MALE IN YOUR FAMILY wants to help out?

So that was my schmooze-fest. Hope some of those links prove useful to those in the area and those just trolling the web for wedding ideas. :)
